At ALSC, we are dedicated to providing access to justice for every Alaskan in need. To better serve our community, we have developed a range of programs and projects, often in collaboration with community partners, to address the unique legal challenges faced by Alaskans.
Holistic Defense:
The Holistic Defense Project, in partnership with approved regions of the Alaska Public Defender Agency, aims to assist Alaskans affected by the criminal legal system by addressing their civil legal issues.
Medical-Legal Partnership:
Medical-Legal Partnership (MLP) integrates attorneys and paralegals into health care settings to address and prevent health-harming social conditions. By collaborating with health care teams, they help screen for and resolve legal issues related to insurance, benefits, housing, education, employment, legal status and safety, aiming to enhance overall health and reduce healthcare use.
Veterans Legal Assistance:
With support from the Bob Woodruff Foundation, ALSC provides legal help to Alaska veterans and their families to resolve civil legal problems that impact housing, health, income, and safety. Alaska has the highest number of veterans per capita in the U.S., many living in rural and Indigenous communities. This funding expands ALSC’s capacity to serve more veterans across the state.
