November 2022 Volunteer of the Month: Rose Stanley

Filed Under: Volunteer of the MonthNovember 3, 2022

Rose Stanley is an attorney living in Seattle. She has volunteered monthly as a pro bono attorney on ALSC’s Landlord/Tenant Helpline for more than a year. Thanks, Rose, for helping Alaskans statewide with their housing questions!

Why did you choose to volunteer with ALSC?

I started volunteering with ALSC for several reasons. I believe in the mission of ALSC to offer free legal services to low income and disadvantaged people and I wanted to get involved to further this mission. I also find volunteering personally fulfilling and wanted an opportunity to use my legal background to help serve the public. And finally, during the pandemic I was looking for a pro bono opportunity that was virtual, like the helpline. Volunteering with the Landlord Tenant Helpline is an easy way to give back!

What are some of your experiences at ALSC that have made a positive difference in the lives of others and/or the community?

Through the Landlord Tenant Helpline, I provide information and resources on a variety of housing-related questions. A lot of the callers don’t know how to approach their housing issue or even where to start to get information on how to handle their situation. The helpline is an important resource for those experiencing housing issues to be able to ask basic housing questions or know if they need to seek further legal advice or resources.

How do you think your experiences with ALSC will benefit you in the future?

I find it rewarding to be able to answer questions and provide information and resources to those experiencing housing issues. I hope to continue to volunteer with ALSC and provide direct service support to those in need.

What do you do when you are not volunteering with ALSC?

I am an environmental attorney for the federal government. I enjoy getting outside with my husband and pandemic puppy (who is not so much of a puppy any more!).
