Q1. Why did your firm choose to volunteer with ALSC?
We recognized a critical community need with respect to extreme delays in SNAP certifications/recertification and felt we could help folks navigate the bureaucratic processes necessary to ensure food for their tables.
Q2. How did this experience with ALSC make a positive difference in the lives of others and/or the community?
The majority of our community member clients received the benefits they were eligible to receive, which meant that many people in the community had their access to affordable food restored. The clients were grateful for the assistance, and we were and remain grateful for the opportunity to help.
Q3. How will these experiences with ALSC benefit the community in the future?
We hope that this experience inspires other firms and attorneys to assist in similar projects that have immediate and important impacts on our community. ALSC provided succinct and robust support to attorneys and staff in our office that worked on the SNAP project, which helped us quickly and efficiently get up to speed. We think community members with the same or similar needs deserve good legal representation, and we look forward to future opportunities to join other practitioners and firms to help address community needs with the aid of ALSC.
Q4. Tell us about your firm, Ashburn & Mason, PC
We are an Alaskan civil law firm that has been providing quality legal representation to clients large and small since 1969. We have attorneys specializing in litigation and transactional work with deep experience in most sectors of Alaska’s economy. From the beginning, our attorneys have taken pride in serving this wonderful community through a strong commitment to pro bono work. That commitment is just as strong today as when the firm first opened its doors. We are glad we could pitch in and help address the SNAP backlog that was hurting Alaskan families through no fault of their own, and we look forward to working with ALSC again in the future to help with other issues as they may arise.
