October 2024 Volunteer Spotlight: Marc Smith

Filed Under: ALSC News, Volunteer of the MonthOctober 7, 2024

For our October 2024 Volunteer Spotlight, we are excited to highlight Marc Smith.  In Marc’s first month of volunteering with ALSC, he has already taken on five pro bono cases and is actively contributing to our Landlord-Tenant Helpline. This free service, available Monday through Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m., is staffed by volunteer attorneys like Marc, offering valuable assistance and guidance to both tenants and landlords with housing-related questions. Marc is currently an attorney at Polaris Law Group, and we are grateful for his commitment to supporting the community through his work with ALSC.

Q1. Why did you choose to volunteer with ALSC?
I want to get a better experience working with the community and to better help clients and their needs.

Q2. What are some of your experiences with ALSC that made a positive difference in the lives of others and/or the community?
Helping people understand the alternatives and options available to them to avoid turbulence in their lives.

Q3. How do you think your experiences with ALSC will benefit the community in the future?
Helping the community know that they do not have to be timid or afraid through these matters alone anymore, they will get help. There is someone out there who can and will help them.

Q4. What do you do when you are not volunteering with ALSC?
I like volunteering with the Air National Guard, outdoor activities like fishing in the Delta Junction community where I live, and meeting new people.
