We are thrilled that ALSC has received funding from the Bob Woodruff Foundation (BWF) for our work to resolve civil legal problems that impact Alaskan veterans’ most basic needs. Alaska has the highest number of veterans per capita in the United States, many of whom are Indigenous and live in Alaska’s rural and remote communities. In 2024, ALSC served over 350 veterans (50% of whom have at least one disability) and their family members across 84 communities. The funding enables ALSC to increase our capacity to provide legal assistance to improve social determinants of health for 100 Alaskan military and veteran households.
As a leader in the military and veteran community, BWF raises awareness about the tough challenges veterans and military families face and invests in solutions to help support them in the next chapter of their lives. We look forward to working with BWF to achieve our shared goals and invite the community to follow our progress and updates on our website and social media platforms.
The Bob Woodruff Foundation was founded in 2006 after reporter Bob Woodruff was wounded by a roadside bomb while covering the war in Iraq. Since then, the Bob Woodruff Foundation has raised awareness about the tough challenges veterans and military families are facing, and invested in solutions to help support them in the next chapter of their lives. To date, the Bob Woodruff Foundation has invested over $170 million to ensure that our nation’s veterans, service members, and their families — those who stood for us — have stable and successful futures.
