November 2024 Donor of the Month: Lloyd Miller and Heather Kendall-Miller

Filed Under: ALSC News, Donor of the MonthNovember 13, 2024

ALSC’s Donor of the Month for November 2024 is Lloyd Miller and Heather Kendall-Miller!

Lloyd Miller and Heather Kendall-Miller are prominent Alaskan attorneys known for their work in advancing Native rights and legal advocacy. Heather has long championed Indigenous issues, particularly through her work with the Native American Rights Fund (NARF). Lloyd, a partner at Sonosky, Chambers, Sachse, Miller & Monkman, LLP, focuses on federal Indian law, representing Native organizations in complex legal matters. Together, through their Lloyd Miller and Heather Kendall Charitable Fund, they were the largest sponsors of our 2024 Jammin’ for Justice fundraiser event, playing a key role in making justice more accessible to Alaskans.

Q1. Why is it important for you to support ALSC?
ALSC provides expert and effective legal representation to people and communities that would otherwise be lost in the maze of a complex legal system.

Q2. Which ALSC service or program stands out to you?
ALSC’s presence in rural Alaska, where it is often the only provider of legal services. The cost to provide these services in such areas is prohibitively expensive for the private bar.

Q3. Besides ALSC, which other causes or organizations are important to you?
We support and are involved with Native American rights organizations, environmental justice and civil rights groups, Alaska conservation organizations, and Doctors Without Borders, among many others.

Q4. What activities do you participate in during your free time?
In addition to being enthusiastic hikers, we continue to travel to faraway places to immerse ourselves in other cultures and traditions.

ALSC appreciates your continued support Heather and Lloyd!
