Alaska-based volunteer attorneys will be on hand to provide free legal assistance to attendees of the Alaska Federation of Natives Convention on Friday, October 18, 2024. The legal clinic will provide walk-in consultations from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. This event will be hosted on the second floor of the Dena’ina Center in the Tubughnenq Room Five.
In commemoration of Alaska Native civil rights leader Elizabeth Peratrovich, attorneys will volunteer their time to offer free walk-in sessions addressing various civil (non-criminal) legal issues, including:
- Family Issues: Custody, guardianship, divorce, adoption
- Public Benefits: Medicaid, Medicare
- Housing/Land Matters: Rentals, foreclosure, allotments
- Other Concerns: Estates, contracts, healthcare directives, power of attorney
Given the limited availability, individuals in need of assistance are encouraged to arrive early during the specified hours. Appointments are not required.
The Elizabeth Peratrovich Legal Clinic is a public service project of the Alaska Bar’s Alaska Native Law Section and Alaska Legal Services Corporation with in-kind support from the Alaska Federation of Natives.
