January Volunteer of the Month: Jordan Duplessis

Filed Under: ALSC News, Homepage Featured, Volunteer of the MonthJanuary 9, 2020

Jordan, a recent intern from the UAA Legal Studies department, was a fantastic team player and ready to assist with anything. She ensured that ALSC clients obtained the necessary court documents for their cases. She also helped with a number of special projects. She will be missed! Read on for our full interview with Jordan below:

Why did you choose to volunteer with ALSC?

I chose to volunteer with ALSC because of their commitment to the people of Alaska! Every person at ALSC believes that everyone should have access to justice and they help everyone they can receive it. The ALSC staff truly are servants of the people of Alaska!

What are some of your experiences at ALSC that have made a positive difference in the lives of others and/or the community?

I have watched people come into ALSC with the weight of the world on their shoulders only to leave with a lighter load simply because they were heard. No one is rushed out or made to be little here. I have been very fortunate to be able to help people get information on their cases, help the lawyers in the office, and be available to help in any way that I can.

How do you think your experiences with ALSC will benefit you in the future?

Volunteering my time at ALSC has been one of the changing and defining moments of my life. I say this because it has changed my view on what “justice for all” truly means and how to give good legal care to all people and not just the few. I thoroughly believe that ALSC has made the biggest impact on the Alaskan community because of their dedication and care for the Alaskan people. You will not find a more dedicated and caring staff than the staff at ALSC.

Anything else you would like to share with our readers?

I am so honored to have been able to do my internship at ALSC. I was unsure of what lay ahead for me when I walked through the door on the first day but here I am feeling at home among all of these wonderful people that I have had the privilege to work with and I am eternally grateful for all the time and experience that has been given to me here. I will miss you all!
