Alaska Legal Services Corporation is recruiting for a full-time (35 hours per week) Staff Attorney to serve as a complaint analyst for ALSC’s fair housing program; there may be flexibility for the position to be located in Anchorage or other locations within Alaska. The fair housing program works to eliminate illegal housing discrimination and promotes equal access to housing by providing education, outreach, technical assistance, and enforcement opportunities specifically related to federal, state, and local fair housing laws. The Fair Housing Staff Attorney is responsible for fair housing complaint intake and screening, complaint analysis and referral, and client advocacy for the administrative and judicial enforcement of fair housing laws. The Fair Housing Staff Attorney will also have responsibility for statewide fair housing hotline call response, technical assistance to attorneys and housing professionals regarding fair housing laws, community outreach and education concerning the availability of fair housing enforcement and testing, and detailed recordkeeping.
Required: Applicants must be admitted to practice law in Alaska or admitted to practice in another state and be eligible for an Alaska Bar Rule 43 waiver. Highly Desired: The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to serving low-income individuals and the ability to gain clients’ trust. A background working in cross-cultural situations is highly desired.
Salary $64,785-$102,036 DOE and Location. Generous benefits and leave package provided, including partial reimbursement of relocation expenses. Personal leave begins at six weeks per year for a full-time employee. ALSC observes 15 paid holidays.
