Valerie Therrien has been a pro bono attorney volunteer for more than 25 years, helping ALSC clients in Fairbanks with Chapter 7 Bankruptcy and Debt Collection cases. Valerie is retiring from the practice of law; ALSC thanks her very much for her many years of pro bono service and looks forward to continuing working with her in her retirement.
Why did you choose to volunteer with ALSC?
When I was in law school I worked for Maine Legal Services in Presque Isle, Maine. I enjoyed the experience.
What are some of your experiences at ALSC that have made a positive difference in the lives of others and/or the community?
I was happy to provide the Bankruptcy seminar quarterly for many years. It gave me the opportunity to give back to my community. I really enjoyed the interaction with the individuals who participated in the seminars and answered many questions over the years after the seminar was completed.
Do you think your experiences with ALSC will benefit you in the future?
Yes. I will continue to support ALSC and hope to start up the bankruptcy seminars soon.
What do you do when you are not volunteering with ALSC?
I spend time with my family and grandchildren, golf, play cards, and travel.
