- Why did you choose to volunteer with ALSC? Each time I choose to volunteer, my motivation seems to have two components that come in stages. The first is simply professional responsibility, which compels me to make the time. Once I make the initial step, I recall the sense satisfaction and service that I get each time I help. That motivation to be of service where it is needed and appreciated becomes the driving force to rearrange my schedule as necessary to do pro bono work.
- What are some of your experiences at ALSC that have made a positive difference in the lives of others and/or the community? One case resulted in a settlement agreement that reduced tensions between an employer and an employee, made the employee’s position more secure, and substantially alleviated the stress of a young family by increasing their economic security.
- How do you think your experiences with ALSC will benefit you in the future? Each time I volunteer, I end up improving my ability to meet ALSC clients where they are in their life. It’s satisfying to broaden my work as a lawyer beyond complex institutions and work with individuals on basic needs.
- What do you do when you are not volunteering with ALSC? I work in the ConocoPhillips Alaska legal department, serve on the board for Great Land Trust, volunteer in a variety of ways through Central Lutheran Church, and explore Southcentral Alaska trails and waterways with my wife and two sons.
