ALSC’s June Volunteer of the Month is Anna Delasse! Anna recently graduated from UAA and currently serves as an ALSC legal intern in the Anchorage office. Through her time at ALSC, Anna has brought extraordinary energy and passion, and there is no task that she cannot handle! Read on for our interview with Anns about her experience interning with ALSC:
Why did you choose to volunteer with ALSC?
I originally started volunteering here to fulfill a UAA Legal Studies requirement, but how the opportunity chose me was through looking for Alaska’s greatest area of need. I had researched what kinds of needs Alaska has and one organization kept popping up. Finally, one day the Justice Center at UAA put out a notice that ALSC needed help. I showed up for the orientation and I never left after that.
What are some of your experiences at ALSC that have made a positive difference in the lives of others and/or the community?
My top two favorite experiences are doing outreach events and following up with various state agencies. With outreach, people are always complimenting and constantly remarking on the way that this organization continues to march forward on behalf of the clients. I’m always honored to hear experiences and stories as well as represent ALSC in the community.
How do you think your experiences with ALSC will benefit you in the future?
I think I have seen here that law school does not make you a lawyer. The school can give you the tools but it is the experience in the day to day operations that really shape you. ALSC has continued to humble me in ways that are vital in my life. I think being in the legal profession is amazing and very accomplishing but I need to remember why I am doing this. Serving the families with the upmost quality is the blessing here.
