An unexpected life crisis can happen to anyone:
- A mother is abused by her husband in front of her children in a remote rural village and does not have the financial means or support to leave;
- A grandfather falls behind on his mortgage payment and struggles to care for his family while fearing the loss of their shelter;
- A veteran is denied federal benefits, even though his mental disabilities leave him housebound and unable to work in his rural community.
For all of these problems there is a legal solution, but unfortunately paying for an attorney’s help can be far beyond the reach of many Alaskans. For them and thousands like them, Alaska Legal Services Corporation (ALSC) is their only hope to access Alaska’s civil justice system. Established in 1967, ALSC is a nonprofit law firm that provides free legal assistance to low-income and vulnerable Alaskans in need.
