Alaska Legal Services Corporation is recruiting for a full-time (35 hours per week) staff attorney to
provide legal services to Association of Village Council Presidents (“AVCP”) member Tribes and
tribal members; there is flexibility for the position to be located in Bethel, or Anchorage (with
regular travel to Bethel). This position primarily involves representation of tribal clients in state child
welfare proceedings, enforcing the Indian Child Welfare Act; and managing a caseload of state
court child in need of aid cases. Other duties may also involve litigating other Native law matters
on behalf of AVCP Tribes and tribal members. The Bethel ICWA attorney serves clients in cases
primarily heard in Bethel, Alaska courts in the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta, and will also have the
opportunity to participate in appellate and impact litigation.
Required: Applicants must be admitted to practice law in Alaska or admitted to practice in another
state and be eligible for an Alaska Bar Rule 43 waiver. Information on Bar admission or requirements
for a waiver can be found at www.alaskabar.org. Computer proficiency (Windows operating system,
Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Internet, e-mail and data entry); and the ability to communicate
and work effectively in cross-cultural situations.

Salary $64,080-$144,180 DOE and Location. Generous benefits and leave package provided,
including partial reimbursement of relocation expenses. Personal leave begins at six weeks per
year for a full-time employee. ALSC observes 15 paid holidays.
