Job Opportunity: Fair Housing Education and Outreach Coordinator

Alaska Legal Services Corporation (ALSC) has an opening in its Anchorage office for a full-time Education and Outreach Coordinator to join the team that manages ALSC’s Fair Housing Project.

ALSC is a private non-profit law firm providing free civil legal assistance to low-income Alaskans through 12 statewide offices. The Fair Housing Project works to eliminate illegal housing discrimination and promotes equal access to housing by providing education, outreach, technical assistance, and enforcement opportunities specifically related to federal, state, and local fair housing laws. This position’s duties and responsibilities include: lead presentations and workshops on fair housing rights and responsibilities around the state; develop and distribute fair housing outreach materials; develop and maintain partnerships with community groups representing traditionally marginalized populations; compose monthly fair housing newsletter; assist with other community outreach efforts as needed; and assist with grant reporting.

Depending on experience, the position may also include responsibilities related to fair housing testing, which include: implement and manage fair housing investigations, maintain accurate records of investigations, prepare clear and detailed investigative reports, recruit fair housing testers, and lead fair housing tester training sessions.

Bachelor’s degree or commensurate experience required. Knowledge of fair housing laws and other housing and civil rights laws preferred. Familiarity with cross-cultural situations required.  Computer proficiency required (Windows operating system, Microsoft Office, Internet and e-mail, and data entry).
