Alaska Legal Services Corporation (ALSC) has an opening in Anchorage for a full-time Outreach Coordinator to join the Pro Bono Training Academy (PBTA).
This position is part of an exciting initiative to expand available legal services for rural residents by increasing the types and number of pro bono providers—made possible through LSC’s Pro Bono Innovation Fund grant. The grant will also support the expansion of the Pro Bono Training Academy with creation of training modules for non-attorney advocates in legal subject areas where there is the most need from low income Alaskans.
ALSC is a private non-profit law firm providing free civil legal assistance to low-income Alaskans through 11 offices throughout the state.
This position’s duties and responsibilities include: conducting outreach for and recruiting pro bono advocates; developing and maintaining partnerships with community groups representing traditionally marginalized populations; assisting with presentations and course trainings for non-attorney advocates; coordinating case placement with trained non-attorney advocates and responding to advocate training requests; assisting with other community outreach and education efforts as needed; assist with grant reporting; and other duties as may arise or be assigned by the Pro Bono Training Academy Project Coordinator and/or supervising attorney. Occasional intra-Alaska and lower 48 travel required.
Bachelor’s degree or commensurate experience required. Knowledge of civil law or paralegal experience preferred. Familiarity with cross-cultural situations and excellent communication and organization skills required. Computer proficiency required (Windows operating system, Microsoft Office, Internet and e-mail, and data entry).
