Alaska Legal Services Corporation has an opening for a full-time staff attorney in our Nome office. The attorney will provide direct legal services to low-income clients in a variety of civil legal matters. In addition, the Nome staff attorney maintains a medical-legal partnership (MLP) with Norton Sound Health Corporation (NSHC), the local tribally-operated health care organization. Practice areas include housing, domestic violence, wills and probates, public benefits, consumer law, Native law, and ICWA.
Duties include intake and casework; working with community groups, tribes, and medical providers; and providing community legal education and travel to outlying areas. The attorney is expected to spend approximately half of his/her time at NSHC, seeing MLP clients and communicating with MLP partners. Background working in cross-cultural situations desired.
