PROVIDING LEGAL SERVICES FOR ALASKAN VETERANS
Alaska Legal Services Corporation is committed to assisting the estimated 26,000 total service members and their 50,000 family members currently in Alaska with their critical legal needs.
SECURING VETERAN HOUSING
ALSC helps keep eligible veterans in their homes by assisting them in nonpayment and other eviction proceedings. We also help veterans pursue rent overcharge claims and actions to improve housing conditions.
KEEPING MILITARY FAMILIES TOGETHER
Our staff works to preserve military families wherever possible. We advise or represent veterans who want guardianship or adoption for dependent children; veterans who are facing divorce, separation, child custody or support disputes and victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.
At ALSC, we help veterans, service members, and their families access and retain government benefits, ensuring that they can keep food on their table and a roof over their heals. Our attorneys assist veterans when government benefits are being wrongfully denied, inaccurately calculated, or improperly terminated. ALSC advises or represents veterans who are trying to obtain unemployment insurance, food stamps, Medicaid/Medicare and other public assistance. We also help veterans obtain or maintain Social Security Disability Benefits.
Our attorneys represent veterans who are facing consumer law matters by providing legal advice and assistance. Issues that ALSC may cover include federal bankruptcy protection, preventing unlawful debt collection practices, overcoming illegal sale contracts or warranties, and preventing utility terminations.
